Nicky Ashley

With twelve years in house experience gained at Asda, Whitbread and Compass Group Nicky moved into consultancy three years ago providing internal communication expertise to a wide range of organisations. Her most recent projects have included the development of an intranet for M&S Money, the creation of a communications workshop for Belron®, a new communication channel for Vodafone’s call centre staff, a review of the team briefing process for the Environment Agency, a change communication programme for Skandia, the development of several communication channels for BAA, plus benchmarking exercises for Abbey and Atkins.

As Head of Group Internal Communication for Compass Group, Nicky developed the group’s first global intranet strategy, establishing a central infrastructure to support businesses in 95 countries. She was also pivotal in developing and implementing the company’s employer brand to benefit 400,000 employees.

At Whitbread Nicky also devised and implemented an intranet for the leisure group, as well as a training programme to help employees understand and adopt new ‘Web ways of writing’.

During her time at Asda, Nicky created and launched the monthly business TV programme Asda News. She also developed the value-generating employee suggestion scheme ‘Tell Archie!’ and simplified the flow and delivery of information from head office to more than 200 Asda stores.

Along the way, Nicky has picked up a number of awards including a New Media Age award (2001) for the reconstruction of Whitbread’s external website. Her contribution at Compass Group was recognised by two further awards; HR Excellence Award (2005) for the most effective use of internal communications and the SCM Business Performance Award 2005.
