Driving Performance Through Communication: Lessons from WM Trains' Award-Shortlisted Campaign

Date: 18 November 2026
Time: 1.00pm to 2.00pm
Location: Online
Cost: Free

Communicators are often asked to support performance improvement. But how do you translate complex targets into something people can understand, relate to and act on?

Join us for a practical case study session exploring how WM Trains engaged 3,500 colleagues across stations, depots, and offices in a shared drive to improve operational performance. Driven by a commitment to deliver a consistently punctual and reliable service for its customers, WM Trains wanted an approach that would make performance meaningful, relevant and actionable for every role across the business.

In this session, you'll hear from Rebecca Glover-Knight, Performance Communications & Engagement Manager, WM Trains, and Chris Crofts, HarknessKennett, who will share the story behind the award-shortlisted "Every Minute Matters, Every Role Counts" campaign. The campaign transformed operational objectives into an engaging organisation-wide initiative that encouraged ownership, sparked conversations and generated hundreds of practical ideas for improvement.

You'll hear about:

  • The thinking behind the "Every Minute Matters, Every Role Counts" campaign concept

  • The strategy used to reach a diverse and geographically spread workforce and tactics to engage both operational teams and support functions.

  • What worked, what surprised the team and the results achieved so far

  • Practical lessons you can apply in your own organisation

You'll also have the opportunity to ask questions, share experiences and learn from fellow communication practitioners facing similar challenges.

The programme has been shortlisted for an IoIC Award, recognising its impactful approach to engaging colleagues around operational performance and creating lasting behavioural change.

Whether you're supporting organisational change, culture transformation or performance improvement, this session will provide practical ideas and inspiration for helping people connect their day-to-day work with the outcomes that matter most.

Who should attend?
Internal communication professionals, employee engagement specialists, change communicators, culture practitioners and anyone interested in using communication to drive business performance.

This event is aimed at IC practioners. Please contact Tanya.McClelland@harknesskennett.com for any enquiries.
