John Lewis & Partners is the department store division of The John Lewis Partnership, which is the UK’s largest employee-owned business (owned in Trust by 81,000 Partners). It runs 51 stores across the UK, as well as its successful online business.

HarknessKennett worked with John Lewis & Partners’ internal communications team at a time of unprecedented change. With disruption in the competitive retail landscape putting the business under pressure, it was in the process of adopting an ambitious new strategy, supported by a comprehensive brand refresh.

This business-critical activity was supported by extensive national advertising and PR initiatives, but internal communication had a vital role, too – facilitating the business changes themselves, and winning internal support for the new strategy and brand.

“HarknessKennett provided the grit in the oyster. They challenged our thinking and made us address the questions from a partner perspective – what does this mean? What do I need to do differently? Their contribution really helped our communications be more robust and think through the partnership perspective”

Senior IC Manager, John Lewis & Partners
